Tommy Noble and Distantt

I haven't posted in a little while so I figured why not show you guys two amazing artists instead of just one?  Both of these two artists are phenomenal examples from the Electro-House label Big Fish Recordings. Actually I've recently found a wealth of great music some lesser known labels, so hopefully I'll be sharing with you more frequently.

First up: Tommy Noble
Alex Quirk and Trevor Welch form the duo known as Tommy Noble, making incredibly danceable and hard hitting music. Coming out of central coast California they are sure to blow you away.

Next up: Distantt
Now this guy has proven himself to be incredibly versatile. A Texan DJ who's made songs like Infinity that are worthy of comparison with the likes of Avicii, and songs like Peaceful Devastation that are worthy of comparison with the likes of Skrillex. This is impressive for anyone, but here's something that just might blow your mind: This guy is 14 years old. Unbelievable!!! If he ever decides to play live he might have to cancel shows when he gets grounded!

At any rate this guy has a lot ahead of him and if he's making music this great now we can only imagine what he'll be making later.

The M Machine

In late May an interesting video surfaced displaying some of the most delightful Electro. It fascinated everyone since the video album preview didn't really say who was behind it. Originally called "Metropolis", the group's Facebook had only Skrillex and Porter Robinson on the front page so many people thought it was a collaboration between those two. Turns out its the guys from Pance Party with a whole new take on Electro. Check out the preview video below!

So while the whole album has yet to be released, the long wait for an EP release is finally over! Check out some of The M Machine's amazing music

First Single:
The M Machine - Trafalgar by The M Machine

First Remix
PeaceTreaty - Cal State Anthem (The M Machine Remix) by The M Machine

First EP:
Promise Me A Rose Garden / Glow by The M Machine

Modestep

Dubstep originated in the UK, rising from the dark and filthy underground music scene to claim mainstream appeal in the UK and now the world. Ever since then some of the most interesting and innovative Dubstep artists have grown out of the UK. Modestep is definitely a product of its environment with amazing and intricate music

One of the main criticisms of electronic music is that it lacks the human element of a live rock show. While spinning decks and live mixing takes undeniable skill, it just isn't as stunning to watch as a live guitar solo. EDM artists know this, and use the many ways to make live shows more fun to watch. Extensive light shows with blasting lasers, LED bars, and strobes make for quite the spectacle. Artists like Gramatik and Pretty Lights have live guitarists or drummers play with them, adding that human element back to the performance. Surprisingly though, there are very few real EDM bands. Pendulum does an incredible job with Drum and Bass, but here we have Modestep for the dubstep/complextro element.

While no full album has been released yet, the band has told us that they are in the process of writing one. Hopefully we'll see it soon! Modestep also runs a fantastic radio show every Sunday from 9-10pm UK time (thats 4-5pm for Eastern US time). Focus is on the local grime scene including some of the newest and best Dubstep. Check it out!

RE:GENERATION

Hi everybody!

So something came up on my radar recently that I think is well worth sharing. An amazingly long list of artists including DJs, bands and singers have come together in this one project called RE:GENERATION. The idea is that each DJ pairs up with a musician from a genre completely separate from EDM, and they come together to make music. What a beautiful concept! Check out the preview below:

Official Site: http://www.regenerationmusicproject.com/

Musical Combinations:
DJ Premier, Nas, and the Berklee School of Music Orchestra (Classical)
Pretty Lights, Leann Rimes and Ralph Stanley (Country)
Crystal Method, Martha Reeves (R&B)
Skrillex, The Doors (Rock)
Mark Ronson, Dap Kings, and Trombone Shorty (Jazz)

While this is very exciting, it is kind of strange. This strikes me as odd because the project is produced and organized by the Grammys. Think about that for a second. EDM has gotten so mainstream and accepted by the public that it has caught the attention of the Grammys. They're not dismissing EDM as something that only nerds and Europeans listen to, they're representing it as a genre with true depth and potential. This is very exciting for people like me who have been listening to EDM way before it became popular. We just need to be careful to not turn into hipsters!

Look forward to new posts about upcoming October releases and as always, happy listening!

Glitch Mob Concert

This Saturday Boston was treated to an amazing show, and I was lucky enough to be there! Com Truise, Phantogram and Glitch Mob all played at the Paradise Rock Club. The venue was much wider than it was deep which made it really easy for my friends and I to get right up to the front.

The excitement coming from edIT (frontman for Glitch Mob) and the rest of the band was great. edIT is originally from Boston and shared how glad he was to be back. He also added that his parents were in the audience!

Each DJ had a set of electronic drums, hardware drum pads, and a touchscreen for live mixing. It was great to see them perform live. No pre-recorded stuff here!

We Can Make The World Stop (new Glitch Mob EP in its entirety)

Want to hear Glitch Mob's brand new EP? Check it out above in the soundcloud playlist!

Want to see what the light show was like? Check out my videos below from Saturday night!

As always, happy listening :)

Madeon

Readers of Quoth the Raver might remember how much I love French Electro-House. Daft Punk, Danger and Louis La Roche all fall under this genre heavily influenced by Funk and Disco. Well now we add a fun new DJ to the stage, Madeon! Most of us found out about him after seeing this awesome video as it made the rounds on a bunch of great techno blogs. It shows Madeon playing a live mashup of some of his favorite songs on a Novation Launchpad:

There's much more to this talented artist though. For one thing he is very young for a successful DJ (only 17!). His take on French House has turned more towards Pop instead of the Disco influence that Louis La Roche has been playing with. Tons of people in the EDM community have begun to recognize his talent for what it is, including some of the very people he has remixed. How cool is that!?!

Deadmau5 himself commended Madeon for his original take on Raise Your Weapon:
Raise Your Weapon - Deadmau5 (Madeon Remix)

His remix of The Island won first place in Pendulum's own remix competition and was praised by electro-dubstep heavyweight Skrillex:
The Island - Pendulum (Madeon Remix)

Madeon was invited to play with Yelle after she heard his remix of her song Que Veux Tu:
Que Veux Tu - Yelle (Madeon Remix)

His original material is great too! Check out his most recent original called Shuriken
Shuriken - Madeon

So after hearing all these great songs I'm sure you're as hopeful as I am for a new album or EP release. Well, we're in luck! According to a recent interview, Madeon plans to release a four track EP filled with unreleased goodies this summer! You can read the full interview HERE. I can't wait for it, and you can be sure that I'l let you all know when it drops. While we wait though we sure have a lot of great music to keep us happy. Enjoy!
