DnB is my new favorite genre right now. Some people describe DnB as a faster version of Dubstep, but you could pretty much describe DnB as a faster version of anything. The reason? It’s fast. It’s damn fast. 160 to 190 bpm to be exact. Don’t mistake it for Hardstyle though, which is just as fast but has a much more synthetic sound.
The challenge with making a good DnB track is managing both the melody and the rhythm. Because the tempo is so fast, it’s very easy for the beats to meld together into an unappealing mess. Good DnB has the fast tempo but uses non-percussive instruments and/or vocals to keep the song interesting and give it flow.
Ever have a ton of work to do and need it done really quickly? Chug your energy drink of choice (Amp is mine) and put on a good DnB mix. You will be astonished at how productive you become.
